Focus on Contrails’ Climate Impacts and Ways to Mitigate Them

The Copenhagen Contrails Conference is a solution-oriented global gathering focused exclusively on addressing the climate impact of aviation contrails.

It’s convening leaders from scientific institutions, the aviation industry, climate organizations, policymaking, and corporate sustainability who will drive actionable solutions for mitigating contrail-induced climate warming.

Learn about the latest science, scalable solutions, policy & regulation, and partnership possibilities. Meet confirmed speakers from Google, Bill Gates’s Breakthrough Energy, T&E, the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, RMI, and many more.

Mark your calendar for March 25-26, 2025, at Scandic Copenhagen. This will be three months before Denmark takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU, providing a unique opportunity for getting aviation non-CO2 warming prioritized on the EU agenda.

See the menu for agenda, confirmed speakers, and venue & hotel information. Don’t forget to register for the conference (below).

We look forward to seeing you in Copenhagen and taking contrails from the lab to the skies.

Who Should Attend?

Though everyone is welcome, the conference is mainly targeted at the aviation industry, academics, and these three groups:

Corporate Sustainability Leaders. Many larger companies are already calculating and reporting their non-CO2 Scope 3 emissions (most of it from contrails) from corporate air travel – and some are also voluntarily buying carbon credits to offset those emissions. This conference will offer solutions for corporates to help mitigate the warming from contrails.

Policymakers. The Copenhagen Contrails Conference will take place in the Danish capital before Denmark takes over the presidency of the EU Council in July 2025. At the same time, the EU has mandated that airlines monitor, report, and verify their non-CO2 emissions for all flights within Europe from January 2025. Thus, there is a unique opportunity to put contrails on the EU agenda right now.

Climate Organizations. With the 2015 Paris Agreement, most countries agreed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius or well below 2.0 degrees by 2050. Most climate cooling solutions are either very expensive, very slow, and/or will require a substantial change in human behavior. Contrail management is inexpensive, can likely be implemented relatively soon, and passengers won’t feel much. This is a rare combination for a climate solution that can mitigate 1-2% of climate warming.

Registration

Registration for the event is open. There will be two options for tickets: Attend the full conference on Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 26, 2025, or attend only day 1 for those with less time on their hands..

Pre-Conference Reception

When making travel arrangements, please consider attending a pre-conference networking reception in downtown Copenhagen on Monday, March 24, from 17-19 (CET) supported by the RMI lead Contrail Impact Task Force.

Whether you are an expert already or are seeking how to become more involved in addressing the climate impact of contrails, come connect on the latest contrail management activities. Thank you to CONCITO located at Læderstræde 20, 1201 Copenhagen K for hosting this reception!
